The British Swimming Championships is the flagship domestic meet for British Swimming. The event saw over 1500 swimmers take to the pool across 6 days of back to back competition as athletes compete for senior and junior titles. Reported as one of the largest British Swimming events to take place since 2018, welcoming back over 500 spectators after an enforced hiatus due to the pandemic.
Recommended to British Swimming by UKSport, Lisa Dent from Breakthrough Events was contracted in as the Event Manager to deliver British Swimming’s flagship domestic meet. The event saw over 1500 swimmers take to the pool across 6 days of back to back competition as athletes compete for senior and junior titles. Reported as one of the largest British Swimming events to take place since 2018, welcoming back over 500 spectators after an enforced hiatus due to the pandemic.
With the likes of Adam Peaty, Freya Anderson, Tom Dean and James Guy competing, the Olympic Stars and Podium potentials created eye catching competition culminating in an 8 lane final with 8 British Olympians.
The British Swimming Championships are a key selection meet for the British Swimming High Performance Team. Drafted in late on Breakthrough Events had just shy of 5 weeks to deliver this major event working with the British Swimming High Performance team, Meet Director, Technical Director and the Ponds Forge Venue Team.
With six days of back-to-back livestreamed competition and one day of in-venue training, this was the biggest event hosted by British Swimming since 2018. So when British Swimming lost their event team just weeks before the event, we stepped in to deliver their flagship domestic meet, welcoming over 1500 world-class swimmers and more than 500 spectators to the pool for the first time since the pandemic.
Hot on the heels of the CITI Para Swimming World Series event delivery in Aberdeen, our Founder, Lisa Dent remained in-post as interim Event Manager and Project Lead with British Swimming to ensure the successful delivery of their flagship annual event in Sheffield.
With the likes of Adam Peaty, Freya Anderson, Tom Dean and James Guy competing, the drama was high at a week-long, action-packed event that culminated in an 8 lane final between 8 British Olympians. Seamless organisation was essential: and that is exactly what we delivered.
The Meet Director explains, “Lisa Dent was brought in at short notice to manage the event. She did an excellent job and took on roles that were outside her comfort zone to ensure that the event ran well. Without her we would have struggled to deliver the event. Her work made the event a success.”
Responsibilities included:
Leadership across all operational delivery of the biggest event delivered by British Swimming, post-COVID: this was the first time they have welcomed spectators back to the venue
Delivering an elite-level event in accordance with National Federation regulations and technical classification guides
Sourcing an appropriate medical team, coordinating emergency response provision and recruiting all event volunteers
Managing and working with external parties including Great Big Events, timing & results, medical, technical officials, venues, catering and accommodation providers
Efficient liaison with internal stakeholders including British Swimming’s Sports Presentation, Branding and Competition Management teams
Project management responsibility, including budget and COVID management protocols
Presenting post-event recommendations to support British Swimming in their future management of large-scale events
