Aberdeen Sports Village Aquatics Centre
The CITI Para Swimming World Series event held in Aberdeen sees Britain’s presence as a mainstay fixture on the newly rebranded Para Swimming World Series. With 4 days of competition the event played host to some of the worlds top Para-Swimmers, Breakthrough Events were contracted in to project lead the successful delivery of the event.
About the project
Taking place at the Aberdeen Sports Village’s Aquatics Centre the CITI Para Swimming World Series event was a four-day competition incorporating the domestic British Para-Swimming Meet 2022.
The event played host to some of the worlds top Para-Swimmers with British athletes challenging for places on senior British teams, utilising the event to race their international counterparts where the event will also play a part in selections for 2022’s World Championships in Madeira.
When British Swimming lost their events team just six weeks before the CITI Para Swimming World Series in Aberdeen, we stepped into the breach. Taking on the role of interim Project Lead, we delivered a successful 4-day international event that played host to some of the world’s top para-swimmers and incorporated the British Para-Swimming Meet 2022 as well as part of the British team selection process.
With only six weeks to go before the launch event of the newly rebranded CITI Para Swimming World Series, our founder Lisa Dent had to get up to speed fast when she stepped in as interim Project Lead and Event Manager with British Swimming.
Despite having no previous experience of delivering an international level swimming event, Lisa’s years of international event management experience stood her in good stead. She hit the ground running, liaising with high-level stakeholders including international and national sports federations; venue staff and internal teams, to deliver a successful world-class event.
“I needed someone to come on board and just take on the project and lead without much support and that is exactly what you did. I know how challenging this event is under “normal” circumstances so the fact you came in so late and delivered a quality event has been brilliant.” British Swimming, Head of Events & Marcomms
