With triathletes from every Commonwealth nation travelling to Birmingham for [X] races over [X] days, we stepped in to provide the expert mechanical support that the Commonwealth Games committee needed in order to ensure that every bicycle made it to the start line in optimal racing condition.
About the project
As they prepared to welcome athletes from developing and developed nations to the Sprint Triathlon events in Birmingham, the Commonwealth Games organising committee were concerned. They needed to ensure that every athlete would have a fully compliant bike ready to race – yet they had no way of knowing what types of bikes would arrive at the venue, nor what volume of service and repairs would be necessary to ensure that they were ready to race on time.
Our customised, neutral-service solution ensured that every athlete’s bike – individual, team or para – was race-ready; performance-optimised, and fully compliant with World Triathlon Organisation bike set-up requirements. By providing all necessary tools and spare parts, we further ensured that athletes could concentrate on their race preparation, with no need to leave the venue.
Responsibilities included:
Providing friendly, personalised service to every athlete, regardless of language spoken
Optimising performance of all bike types, including those from developed and developing nations
Setting up all bikes in compliance with World Triathlete Organisation regulations
Supplying tools and spares for maintenance and repair of all bikes, ensuring that athletes never needed to leave the venue
Pre-event planning and liaison with the Commonwealth Games
Ongoing liaison with event organisers, international governing bodies, athletes and teams throughout the duration of the event.
Exceptional attention to detail. The mechanic team with its in-depth knowledge, industry experience and specialist tools and equipment successfully completed all required work that they were presented with. They fully understand elite professional racing, and were knowledgeable far beyond just the bicycle mechanic side of events.
