Event type: Mana Group/Pho3nix Foundation Sub-7 Sub-8 Project was an ambitious experiment to see whether the best male and female triathletes could “defy the impossible” and break seven and eight hours, respectively, for the iron-distance in triathlon.

About the project

What brought Breakthrough Sports to you: what was your goal?

To provide professional structured and planned technical support for athletes and TT race bikes that ensured all bikes were optimised to the highest performance levels and the race strategy was upheld for the entire 112 section of the cycle course including 27 laps of the 3.4km race circuit. Including entire teams requirements within the pit warm up/cool down area with turbo training bikes was all set up to specific requirements including personal nutrition and hydration as soon as off the race track. Undertake a constant line of 2-way communication throughout race day to the on track team car of current status of team performance and race status.

What difference did it make: the impact?

Incremental aggregation of marginal gains meant that Kat Matthews team won and broke the sub-8 record in 7.34.19

What was the biggest problem or difficulty you were facing with regard to your event organization, before our work together?

Having a team of 10 athletes that have never met or spent time together before and having someone come in and fit straight in and hit the ground running in the event build up and also throughout its duration.

How do you feel about your that now? What is the biggest difference you have experienced?

Proud of the choice that we made in choosing Breakthrough Events to support us within this project as we needed someone that could handle the stress of the buildup and the moment with the international world of triathlon watching

You knew our end goal before we started and at every decision you had already knew that one would be required and had a list of solutions. Provided tactical and engineered solutions that gave us gains over the competition.

To provide a tailored qualified and professional service that would offer neural service support that would cater for all athletes from developing to developed nations with bikes of all types and standards.

What was interesting/unique about the solution Breakthrough Sports provided?

Fully tailored custom solution that offered equal support to all athletes. Also fully understood World Triathlon Organization athlete bike set-up requirements to ensure all bikes maintained within the governing body rules of racing. Service included supplying tools and cycle spares so athletes did not have to leave venue if needed repairs and could concentrate on prep for the race.

What was the biggest problem or difficulty you were facing with regard to your event organization, before our work together?

Not knowing the state (or what type) of bikes would arrive on venue, esp from the developing nations. Unable to know or plan for the volume of services and repairs that we would have to undertake on venue and that we could only provide a certain level of support

How do you feel about your that now? What is the biggest difference you have experienced?

It was not a problem. The mechanic team with its indepth knowledge, industry experience and specialist tools and equipment took and successfully completed all required work that they were presented with.

What was the very best thing about the experience of working with us on your event?

Ease of communication post event in event planning stages.
